WORKSHOP ON COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Team Mayoor attended an interactive workshop on Effective Communication Skills organised by Ratna Sagar Publishers on Saturday, May 16, 2020. The workshop held on Zoom platform was conducted by resource person Ms. Samridhi Sagar, an accomplished soft skills trainer and communication coach.
The interactive workshop commenced with an icebreaker session in which the participants were required to introduce themselves in a unique manner with part truth and part lies. She went on to emphasise the components of communication and highlighted the barriers to communication; namely-jumping to conclusion with incomplete information, hasty inference making, presumptions and stereotyping.
Ms. Sagar also listed out the PCR (Probe Clarify Repeat/Remember) method of clarity in communication. Encouraging and training children to be good listeners is important for them to gain effective communication skills. She highlighted the four ‘A’ of listening-Accept, Acknowledge, Apologise, Advice.
The KISS principle of communication-‘Keep It Short and Simple’ is an important tenet of effective speaking. Ms. Sagar also listed out the eight positive speaking habits that are important for an impressive communication. Many hands-on activities and language games which can help children strengthen their conversation skills were suggested by her.
She also emphasised that humour and creativity go a long way in making one an effective communicator.
The two and a half hour workshop was a thoroughly enriching one with many take-aways that would help educators prepare students in this important life skill, as well as for their own interpersonal transactions.
